As a company who leverages data to help your business grow, we want to let you know that we are taking action to make sure First Direct stays compliant with any privacy laws that come into effect.
What is CCPA?
Simply put, it’s legislation that grants Californians some protection as it pertains to the privacy of their personal information, especially that which can be gathered and put into use for marketing.
The CCPA legislation, signed by California Governor, Jerry Brown, in 2018 will go into effect beginning January 1, 2020, with enforcement to take place six months later. An important element to note, however, this will include the collection and manipulation of any data obtained 12 months prior, or since July 1, 2019.

Is your company required to comply?
The new CCPA laws apply to any for-profit business that collects personal information, that does business in or with California residents and meets one of the following criteria:
- Does your company have an annual gross revenue above $25 million?
- Does your business have the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers, households or devices
OR - Does your business earn more than half of its annual revenue selling consumer information?
If you answered “yes” to ANY of the above questions, then yes, your company is required to comply.
How do you comply with the new laws?
Step 1: Provide more than one method to submit request for information, including a toll-free number on your website.
Step 2: Provide users with a link to a web page named “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” where consumers can opt-out of the sale of their information.
Step 3: Provide an option where users can have their information removed entirely and to direct any providers to delete the consumers personal information from their records.
